Trump Unveils Ambitious AI Plan Focused on Innovation, Deregulation, and Fighting “Bias”

In a bold new move, former President Donald Trump has unveiled a sweeping AI Action Plan designed to turbocharge America’s artificial intelligence industry by slashing regulations and targeting what the administration calls “ideological bias” in AI systems.

The 28-page policy roadmap includes more than 90 action items and aims to position the United States as a global leader in AI development, emphasizing innovation, infrastructure, and national security. Trump is also expected to sign three executive orders alongside the plan, one of which will promote the international export of U.S.-developed AI technologies.

“We believe we’re in an AI race, and we want the United States to win that race,” said David Sacks, Trump’s AI and crypto policy lead.

Focus on Infrastructure and Deregulation

Central to the plan is the expansion of U.S. data centers, AI infrastructure, and the removal of what the administration terms “bureaucratic red tape.” Federal agencies are being directed to review and repeal existing policies that may slow AI growth.

The plan also encourages both public and private sector adoption of AI, aiming to streamline innovation across industries including defense, finance, and healthcare.

Combating “Woke” AI and Ideological Agendas

A major theme of Trump’s AI initiative is removing what he calls “engineered social agendas” from AI systems. The administration argues that AI must remain ideologically neutral and free from what it terms “woke” bias.

“American development of AI systems must be free from ideological bias,” the White House stated.

A Strategic Edge Over China

Another core aim of the plan is to outpace China in the global AI race. Trump officials see advanced AI as critical to U.S. national security, economic growth, and global influence.

Interestingly, the administration recently reversed a ban that had prevented tech giant Nvidia from selling high-performance AI chips to China—a move that raised eyebrows given the plan’s anti-China rhetoric.

Critics Warn of Deregulation Risks

Not everyone is on board with the new AI strategy. Critics argue the plan caters too closely to Big Tech interests and strips away essential safety standards.

“This plan was written by and for tech billionaires,” said Sarah Myers West of the AI Now Institute. “It prioritizes corporate profits over public safety.”

Jim Secreto, a former Biden administration official, echoed concerns, calling the plan “a reckless gamble” that weakens U.S. safeguards.

Trump previously reversed a 2023 executive order signed by President Joe Biden, which introduced mandatory safety and security standards for AI development. Trump’s new plan seeks accelerated AI growth instead, shaped by over 10,000 public comments.
